So you just bought your betta from the store or from a breeder.
Now you're wondering what to do next right? Let me guess........you
just plan to pour the betta straight into a glass jar or something right?
or just pour it right into your tank with all your other fishes....right?
Well if thats what you plan to do or is what you usually do then you
should REALLY read this section or at least skim through it.
What You Should Know:
Bettas like most fishes are very sensitive to water temperature. If
the temperature of the water rises or drops quickly it will cause a
lot of stress to your betta. Which means it will cause your betta to
stop feeding, and lower it's immune system. I bet you're thinking this
doesn't matter right? Well it does...... your betta will be more vulnerable
to diseases and bacteria due to stress. So they will get sick and even
die. Now, would you want this to happen? Especially when you
just got your betta? I think not.
Transporting Your Betta:
When you go to the pet shop or something to buy your betta or any
other fish. Be sure to bring a cooler and some newspaper. Then just
place the bags of that contains your betta(s) in the cooler and crumble
the newspaper into the cooler to prevent the bags from moving to much.
If you don't want to use a cooler you can also use a box or something.
I would really recommend that you go straight home when you buy you
betta(s)...since this is a much better idea!
What To Do When You Get Home:
When you get home DON'T and I mean DON'T just pour your betta straight
into a tank or jar. First of all float the bag with the betta in it
in the water that you are going to put the betta in. Just let it float
there for at least half an hour or so...but I recommend one hour or
so. Don't worry about there not being enough air in the bag. There's
enough air in there to last your betta(s) for a while. After flaoting
the bag, open up the bag BUT don't pour the betta into the new water
yet. Add some water from the water that you've been floating the bag
in into the bag. Just add a little amount every 20 minutes or so....keep
doing this every 20 to 30 mintues until you feel like the water in the
bag is the same as your water. Just remember the longer you do this
the better it will be... just be patient.
That's It:
That's it...you;re all done and you are now ready to put your betta(s)
into it's new home. There shouldn't bet much stress to your betta(s)
or any at all if you've done this.
